Technologies

Mech-Chem utilizes combinations of the following technologies to provide integrated rinse water and wastewater recovery and recycling systems.

Carbon Filtration

Carbon filtration is often the first step in the filtration process. Its function is to remove organic matter (i.e. oils, grease, solvents, and surfactants) from the wastewater stream.

UF/RO Systems

Ultra Filtration (UF) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems are normally used in conjunction with other filtration systems to provide clean water can be recycled back into the manufacturing system.
An example of a UF/RO system is found in this case study.

Ion Exchange Resin Systems

Ion exchange is used to remove dissolved ions (anion and cation) from the water through the use of synthetic resins, resulting in an extremely high level of purity. During the ion removal process, the ions are bound to the resin and then released and removed during the regeneration cycle. This ion exchange resin is regenerated using strong chemicals (acid and caustic) that remove the ions captured by the resin. In cases where the rinse water or wastewater contains suspended oils and grease from machinery operations, other systems are utilized to first remove the oil and grease, then is processed through other purifying systems.

Evaporation Systems

Evaporation systems are used in closed-loop or zero-discharge systems. By evaporating the wastewater, the smallest particles of contaminants are removed, resulting in a ultra-pure water. The concentrated waste, which is less than 1% of the water processed, can be hauled off-site in significantly smaller amounts, reducing your hauling and dumping costs
